with, and on behalf of, his clients to assist them in successfully
completing what can be a complicated process.
There were no official standards, prior to 2004 for
competent practice for immigration consultants, in Canada. There were
no set standards for the levels of education, knowledge, and experience
required to offer one’s service as an immigration consultants.
To make the matter worse, there was absolutely no
protection for clients who seeks counsel on immigration matters, if
things were to go wrong.
The sad reality is there are many more consultants
around the world who presents themselves as expert on immigration
matters. The fact is they have little knowledge, experience and no
training.
The government of Canada recognized the fact and the
importance of offering consumers some protection from these
unscrupulous and fraudulent agents. The government of Canada introduced
a law in 2004 and the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants
(CSIC) came into existence. They act as a mediatory body for protecting
the consumers of immigration services and ensure the professional
conduct of members.
